During his time as Prime minister of Denmark, Anders Fogh Rasmussen declared that the time of crisis in capitalism was over. This was part of a larger euphoria amongst bourgeoise politicians, economists and social scientists. Most famously, Francis Fukuyama, who declared Marxism dead and the “end of history”.
The so-called financial crisis of 2008 put an end to this euphoria, and many people, Fukuyama included, argued that maybe it was a bit too early to throw Marx into the dustbin of history.
Join us when we discuss the basics of the Marxist understanding of economics, and the broader understanding of the economic and political crisis of modern capitalism.
